In the state of Maine, there is a law that states "Gift Certificates" can not expire. However, for some reason beyond my understanding, "Gift Cards", or any credit card-like card that can have a value loaded to it, can expire.
I just don't see the business sense of having them expire... you've already gotten the money! It would make me that much less likely to give gift cards instead of just giving cash as a gift.
In 2006 Best Buy made $30million from unclaimed gift cards. Victoria's Secret made $20million. They do expire, though not in California. It's illegal for them to expire here.
@cybette: Yep, they have a extra show on Sat 2.5. at 13:00, we have tickets to back balcony, row B18, seats 195+196. I guess we have time for that before my cousins' party in the evening.

Buy tickets, return them before the show and transfer them further on. Then return again until the time suits you, and something interesting is on.

@bishop: Quite common here to be valid for 6 or 12 months.
Actually I found out there is one extra show for LotR concert on Sat afternoon 2.5. Not too many tickets left... Note for @myrtti!
